The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that Amanda Teets has been seriously injured in a Platte County car accident.
The 23-year-old Hamilton, Missouri, woman was a passenger in a 2005 Ford driven by Theodore L. Marti Jr., of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Authorities say that Theo was driving his Ford on Southbound Interstate 29 shortly after 9:30 p.m. yesterday when he lost control of his vehicle.
Theo's car ran off of the right side of the road and overturned.
MHP officers say that neither Amanda Teets or 28-year-old Theo Marti were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Both individuals were ejected and suffered severe personal injuries.
Emergency crews rushed Theodore Marti Jr to Heartland Hospital and Amanda was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital.
About 79 percent of Missourians wear seatbelts according to statistics from the the Missouri Division of the Federal Highway Administration. About 69 percent of people who ided in car crashes between 2010 and 2012 were not wearing seat belts.
In the year 2010, individuals who were not injured in killed in car accidents were buckled up 97 percent of the time.
