A 27-year-old Kirbyville woman is dead after being rear-ended in a Norwood car accident last Sunday. Authorities say that the woman was driving a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup on westbound Highway 60 when a 36-year-old Mansfield man rear-ended her.
The impact of the crash caused the woman's pickup to fly off of the right side of the road and hit a dirt embankment. The woman's vehicle then flipped over multiple times.
Missouri Highway Patrol officers say that the woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from her vehicle. A doctor from Mercy Hospital pronounced the woman dead around 3:00 AM, approximately one hour after the crash happened.
After hitting the woman's car, the Mansfield man also traveled off of the right side of the highway. Troopers say that the 36-year-old man then fled on foot but that he was arrested a short time later. The man was then transported to Texas Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, where he received treatment for minor injuries.
Authorities tested the man for drugs and alcohol but it is unclear what the results of that test were. The man will likely face hit-and-run charges in addition to possible DUI charges pending the results of his tests.
