A car accident in South Central Kansas has left two drivers dead and investigators looking for answers. The crash occurred yesterday near the Wichita ex-urb of Mulvane, which is about 15 miles south of the city.
Authorities say that a Dodge Ram driver from Arkansas City was driving on K-15 and crossed into oncoming traffic around 6:20 a.m. Monday.
The Dodge driver slammed on his brakes and skidded up to 40 feet before hitting a Ford pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old Wichita woman. The both drivers were both killed in the crash.
There was also a 27-year-old Wichita man in the Dodge who survived the crash. That man is in the hospital in "very critical condition" according to the Wichita Eagle. Critical condition indicates that a person has suffered life-threatening injuries and has a poor prognosis for recovery.
It was unclear where the Dodge driver was going at the time of the crash but the Wichita woman was working for a school photography company and on her way to take photographs at the time of the crash.
A coworker of the woman said that her "warm smile and open heart made everyone she met feel that they mattered, like they were special. Her ever present optimism, her kind nature, and willingness to give of herself will be what we remember most."
